Artist’s Bio
Artist Bio
Steph is a Dominican-American artist and educator based in New York. Born and raised in the South Bronx, her work is a vibrant exploration of identity, resilience, memory, and cultural reclamation. A self-taught multidisciplinary artist, she draws deeply from her Afro-Indigenous heritage and her connection to the Higuayagua Taíno Tribe to create pieces that honor ancestry, womanhood, and healing.
Working in mixed media, ink, watercolor, colored pencil, and digital illustration, Steph’s art weaves together the personal and the ancestral. Her pieces are layered with symbolism and emotion, often reflecting experiences of transformation, survival, and spiritual awakening.
In addition to her studio practice, Steph holds a Master’s degree in education and serves as an early childhood educator. She is passionate about using art as a tool for empowerment, storytelling, and community building—organizing cultural events and educational experiences that celebrate creativity and heritage.
Her work has been exhibited throughout the Northeast, including the Loft Artists Association Juried Exhibition (First Place, Figurative Category), ArtGroove Experience in Chelsea, Pancakes & Booze Art Show in Brooklyn, and the Caribbean Cultural Festival in East Harlem. In 2025, she is featured in several exhibitions including BK Arts Fest and the PRockland Coloring Book Launch.
Steph is the creator of OriginalsBySteph, a creative platform and online shop that features her fine art collections, Taíno-inspired jewelry and apparel line (Talindo), and other handmade works rooted in spirit and story.
Her art is held in private collections and continues to evolve as a tribute to her ancestors—and an invitation for others to remember who they are.
